5 #RedBusSA Hints and Tips to Remember

The red bus is a safe and secure way to see Cape Town and Joburg. And while we try our very best to ensure all our passengers are well looked after while they hop on and off, we can’t keep an eye out for you once you’ve hopped off to explore a stop.

In an effort to ensure you have a good journey from start to finish, we’ve put together a list of useful hints and tips for all red bus passengers.

Here are Five to Hints and Tips to Remember:

1. Look for official signage and route maps

All stops are clearly marked with City Sightseeing signs. You’ll also find route maps on the bus and in brochures (or online) so you can plan which stops to hop off at.

2. Recognise official staff

Our staff wear branded City Sightseeing gear and are stationed at offices, on buses, and at major stops. If someone claims to work for City Sightseeing but isn’t in uniform, they probably don’t.

3. Keep your valuables secure

Keep phones, wallets, and bags close and out of sight. Be aware in crowded or touristy areas. Use a money belt or an inside zipped pocket if you can.

4. Be cautious around ATMs and strangers offering “help”

If someone offers unsolicited help at an ATM, decline politely. Don’t share your PIN or let others handle your card.

5. Mind safety during low light or isolated stops

The buses mostly run during the day, but if you’re at a lookout or stop near dusk or after dark, try to stay in groups and steer clear of quiet or deserted spots.

Extra Advice for a Better Ride

  • Plan your route ahead — check which attractions you want to visit and see which bus loop covers them (e.g. Red Route vs. Mini Peninsula in Cape Town).
  • Jump onto our Urban Safaris for an inner city tour.
  • Use multi-day tickets — if you have more than one day, a multi-day pass gives you flexibility.
  • Start early — to avoid missing out when attractions close or for catching daylight views.
  • Check for combo deals — sometimes your Red Bus ticket can connect to other tours (e.g. to Table Mountain or a cruise).
  • Check the latest schedule — bus timetables can change seasonally, so check online before your trip.
